God of War: Ghost of Sparta Review - Best 2010 PSP Game Of The Year
If you're shopping for a PSP gamer this Holiday season you're in luck, we have our very own Holiday PSP Gift Guide that includes the best game from 2010. And what do you know, this is it! The PSP has been a top-selling handheld since it came out five years ago. We have some suggestions on what you can buy the PSP gamer in your life, even if that special someone is you.
But, first, let's take a look at some PSP's recommendations for some of the PSP games you'll want to pick up this holiday.
God of War: Ghost of Sparta is one of the best action adventure games on the PlayStation Portable, and it should not be missed.
Kratos starts the game with the Blades of Athena, which function exactly like blades do in the other games, including the special moves. However, you unlock the ability to add fire to the blades. Known as Thera's Bane, this power functions similar to the Rage of Sparta in God of War III, with its own separate meter (which replenishes over time) and the ability to activate or deactivate it at will. One important difference, though, is that Thera's Bane is necessary for more than just adding power to your attacks. Doors and other obstacles require the power in order to be destroyed, and it's also necessary to break through the armor of certain enemies.
The graphics are among the best we've ever seen and the gameplay is dialed-in to perfection. If you know any gamer who needs to ride a bus or subway, this gift should be at the top of your must-buy list.
Goods Of God Of War: Ghost of Sparta
- An excellent, variety-filled combat system with plenty of upgrades
- Lots of challenging yet not impossible puzzles
- Kratos is a highly entertaining antihero, and the story constructed for him works brilliantly
- Beautiful character designs and environments are backed up by a technically excellent engine
- One of the best orchestral scores we've ever heard.
Between God of War and God of War II, Ghost of Sparta picks up right at the end of God of War, with Kratos sitting on his new claimed the throne looking appropriately grumpy. When everything becomes a God did not remove the disturbing memories of his past, but now he is haunted by a vision we have never seen before - an old woman lying sick on a slab of stone. Convinced that he can actually change this vision, Kratos sets off for Atlantis on a quest that eventually takes him back to his home in Sparta and in the realm of Thanatos, the death.
